The Trust team are available to provide support and mentoring to colleagues. We can join you virtually to review or assist with your patient or we can provide 1:1 mentoring and advice.

Care Services Advice and Training:

Our team can provide customised advice and clinical guidance to Care teams and Case Managers. Just email your query and we will advise on how we can best assist you.

Education:

Our multi-disciplinary team can provide education through virtual platforms and produce customised care booklets and training resources.

  • Pain Management

    Our service can provide advice regarding medication and non-pharmacological physical treatments to assist with pain management. We can advise when it will be beneficial to refer to other pain specialists who work in the field of spinal cord injury, eg Pain Management Consultant.

    We offer advice and support in the management of bladder and bowel dysfunction resulting from spinal cord injury, including advice on medication, equipment and onward referral for bladder or bowel assessment.

    Our extensive experience enables our team to provide impartial advice on appropriate equipment to assist in all aspects of living with spinal cord injury.

    We provide resources and advice to help solve problems with functional activities that affect your day to day life at home, work and in leisure activities.

    We provide advice and support in the management of skin issues resulting from spinal cord injury.

    The multi-disciplinary team of highly specialist professionals are available to provide advice and support regarding all aspects of living with a spinal cord injury.

  • Mobility

    Our service provides advice on how to manage movement problems. We can provide tailor-made exercise programmes for strengthening, endurance and fatigue management. We can also provide guidance on choosing most appropriate mobility aids including functional electrical stimulation devices , dynamic splinting and robotics.

  • Autonomic Dysfunction

    Autonomic dysfunction is a life threatening condition affecting individuals with spinal cord injury at T6 and above levels. This is your body’s response to an unpleasant stimulus resulting in extremely high blood pressure. We can provide holistic advice in the management of autonomic dysreflexia by understanding the potential causes and recommending effective treatment options.

  • Spasticity & Muscle Weakness

    Our service can provide advice regarding medications, physical treatments, splinting and exercise management for problems related to spasticity or weakness. We can provide a holistic management plan to include discussions regarding the range of medications and Botulinum toxin prescription.

    Our team can provide you with resources and contacts, to assist you to explore new activities and find the right services to assist you to return to work and hobbies.

  • Sexuality & Fertility

    Sexuality and fertility can be affected after a spinal cord injury. The location and severity of an injury can determine which aspects might be affected. Pregnancy and vaginal delivery are possible after a SCI.
    TRUST TELEREHAB will not hold any clinics on these topics but may provide generic information as a few of its members have worked in this field. They would refer you to specialist NHS or private units where trained healthcare professionals can provide the necessary input.

  • Respiratory Management

    We can advise on the equipment available to assist in managing respiratory problems. If necessary we can sign post to clinical services that are available and provide advice for future preventative care.

  • Follow Up Care

    At the end of our assessment, we will provide you with a summary of our findings and recommendations for ongoing care. These may include onward referrals to other professionals like neuro-urologists, dieticians or internal medicine specialists.
    TRUST TELEREHAB will not offer routine follow-up care. You are welcome to contact the team should you request further input. A new fee will apply.

  • Cauda Equina Syndrome

    We have a wealth of expertise to advise on all aspects cauda equina syndrome. We work closely with the national specialist spinal injuries and associated services, in addition to the CES charities. We can offer impartial advice on specialist orthotics and equipment available.

  • Peer Support & Wellness

    We are passionate to help individuals with spinal cord injuries regain independence and fully engage with their communities. We can provide peer support and practical advice on wheelchair skills training, accessing community, travelling, planning holidays, going back to work through our referral network.

  • Posture & Seating

    Our experts specialise in tailored posture and seating solutions, 24 hour posture management for individuals with complex disabilities enhancing comfort, mobility and quality of life. Our service includes comprehensive assessments, and independent advice on customised seating systems, pressure management and assistive technology integration.

  • Diet & Fitness

    Individuals with SCI are at higher risk of being less physically fit and developing several chronic cardiometabolic disorders like obesity, diabetes and heart diseases due to changed metabolism and reduced ability to exercise. Countermeasures include adopting a healthy diet that provides adequate nutrition, and adapted exercises to not only maintain fitness but also ensure appropriate management of bladder, bowels and skin (to avoid pressure injuries).
    The TRUST TELEREHAB team will post articles on these topics on its website and refer you to dietitians, exercise therapists and/or internal medicine specialists as appropriate.

  • Referrals & Recommendations

    If our Trust team is unable to assist with a specific issue or we advise that you will require further support, we will provide information on how to seek further help and where possible we will refer you to one of our network of colleagues. If necessary, we will provide a letter to your General Practitioner to request an onward referral.

TRUST services - are we right for you?

We are:

  • A service for individuals with a spinal cord injury (SCI) or a cauda equina injury/syndrome (CES).
  • We offer specialized guidance in all areas of SCI. If we are unable to deliver the specific advice you require, we will refer you to a suitable service that can assist you.

We are not:

  • A service to assist you with general spinal pain and musculo-skeletal problems.
  • A specialist pain management service.
