Shiva is a Consultant Occupational Therapist(OT) with over two decades of clinical expertise in managing a wide range of conditions, including spinal cord injuries, strokes, and traumatic and non-traumatic neurological conditions. Her professional journey has taken her through various sectors, including private practice, charitable organisations, and the National Health Services (NHS) in the UK and abroad.
Her passion lies in the rehabilitation and management of spinal cord injuries and complex neurological disabilities. She specialises in posture and seating management for individuals with complex disabilities. Furthermore, She is an OT expert Witness in spinal cord injury, providing reports to the Court.
Shiva is deeply passionate about innovation and technology in upper limb rehabilitation. She’s had the privilege of speaking on various platforms, advocating the use of technology as a clinical tool to enhance patient outcomes.
Shiva holds a master’s degree in health management, Strategic Planning, and Leadership. This academic foundation, combined with her extensive clinical experience, have empowered her to establish and develop neuro and spinal rehabilitation pathways and services in the public, private, and charitable sectors.
Shiva is actively involved as a Trustee in the NEURAM Foundation, a charitable organisation dedicated to raising awareness and improving neurological rehabilitation worldwide. She provides clinical, educational, and training support to NEURAM projects in both Mauritius and the UK.
Shiva has also made contributions to the field of neurorehabilitation through publishing articles and journals. Her research and writings aim to advance our understanding of best practices in rehabilitation and therapy.
Passionate about innovation in neuro rehabilitation, I actively advocate for technology in upper limb rehabilitation, speaking at professional forums on its clinical applications to enhance patient outcomes. Additionally, I serve as a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London, contributing to the education of future healthcare professionals. Shiva is a member of the SCI subgroup of Lancet Neurology Commission on Neurorehabilitation.
