Consultant Physiotherapist Specialist in Spinal Cord Injury

Sue is a Consultant Physiotherapist in Spinal Cord Injury and one of the most experienced neuro-physiotherapists working with spinal cord injury in the UK. She was a Clinical Specialist and Lead Physiotherapist at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre (LSCIC) at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust (RNOH) from 1993 to May 2025. Sue remains working with the LSCIC team at RNOH, in a research role. Sue works in a private neuro-physiotherapy capacity with spinal cord injured individuals, including working with two charities. She has been an expert witness physiotherapist in spinal cord injury for 24 years.

Sue has extensive teaching experience and was Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow at University College London from 2015 to 2024. Her experience in service development and research includes her area of research interest in Functional Electrical Stimulation in neurological rehabilitation. She continues to support collaboration with other academic organisations and acted as PI and SI for studies.
She has lectured nationally and internationally to diverse professional groups and presented papers and posters at conferences and meetings relevant to her specialist field.
She has published several book chapters in Neurological Physiotherapy textbooks and contributed to many peer reviewed publications.

Sue is a member of the LSCIC research strategy team and on the national scientific research committees of Stoke Mandeville Research Trust and INSPIRE Foundation charities. Since 2024, she has been a member of the executive committee of the Spinal Cord Injury Advancements and Research Collaborative (SPARC) UK. She is a Peer Reviewer for Physiotherapy Journal.

Sue is a member of the SCI subgroup of The Lancet Commission on Neurorehabilitation
